Large stainless steel blast center opened
The new blast cabin further improves process quality

Blasting of stainless steel is one of the major strengths of Hans Stork Betriebsgesellschaft from Dortmund. The surface specialist has now opened its own stainless steel blast room, with which the company can clearly emphasise its competences in this business segment.
“Processing stainless steel can only reputably take place if this area is clearly separate from processing surfaces of products made from conventional steel,” says Managing Director Dr Philip Stork. “We have, of course, always produced in this way. From a logistical perspective, the blast room, however, makes a significantly smoother working process possible. Last year, we blasted 180,000 tonnes of steel and processed around 100,000 square metres of stainless steel.” Customers included, among others, leading international manufacturers of excavators, construction machines and cranes, as well as a large proportion of the German beverage industry. Personnel were also appropriately upgraded. The company – founded in 1927 – employs around 150 members of staff at its headquarters on Körnebachstraße.
Implementing the stainless steel blast room project has taken 15 months, including the complex plant planning, obtaining the official authorisations and the construction period. The family company has invested around one million euros in this. But the effort and expenses have all been worth it: the small stainless steel blast cabin had already been lavishly dimensioned with 8 x 4 x 4 metres; the big one is 15 x 5 x 5 metres. The processing takes place in a 1000 plus square metre large workshop designed to exclusively process stainless steel. The hall is equipped with the latest technology and overhead cranes. Small parts are processed in the hand blast cabinets.
“With the new hall, we have fulfilled the requirements of long-term key customers in terms of a faster lead time and more storage space,” elaborates Philip Stork. “And last but not least, we’ve been able to significantly further improve our process quality through the new blast room.”
