Safe, conductive surfaces for potentially explosive areas

ATEX coatings

With our ATEX coatings, we are expanding our technical coating portfolio to include the important component of protective coatings for EX areas. The range is specifically aimed at industries in which explosive atmospheres can occur. We apply ATEX coatings directly at the customer's site or – for larger quantities, series and extensive components – at our plant in Dortmund.

What is an ATEX coating?

An ATEX coating is a special surface or material coating that is approved for use in potentially explosive atmospheres in accordance with the European ATEX directive (ATmosphères EXplosibles).

Explosive atmospheres can occur when flammable gases, vapors, mists, or dusts are present. Examples include:

  • Chemical industry,
  • Mills,
  • Paint and varnish production,
  • Hydrogen production,
  • Automotive industry, as well as
  • Pumps, motors, aggregates, generators, and many other machine components.

Tasks and properties of our ATEX coatings

Our ATEX coatings make a decisive contribution to safety and operational reliability in sensitive industrial areas. They fulfil several key functions:

  • Antistatic/conductive: Our coating prevents electrostatic charging and thus possible sparking – one of the most common sources of ignition in ATEX zones.
  • Corrosion protection: We reliably protect metal surfaces against aggressive media, moisture and industrial atmospheres.
  • ATEX compliance: We design each coating to meet the requirements of the relevant ATEX zones – e.g. Zone 1 and 2 (gases) and Zone 21 and 22 (dusts).

In practice, these are conductive or dissipative special coatings that prevent dangerous sparking and thus make a significant contribution to explosion protection.

We use coatings from leading manufacturers such as Vestocor GmbH and Geholit + Wiemer

Surfaces coated with ATEX-compliant coatings prevent electrostatic charging and thus potential sparks, which could lead to serious consequences.

ATEX coatings – at your premises or in Dortmund

To ensure maximum flexibility and efficiency, we offer two powerful options:

  • On-site coating: We carry out ATEX coatings directly at our customers' premises, especially for large, complex or permanently installed systems.
  • Coating in Dortmund: At our factory, we coat large quantities, small parts, series and large components under optimal conditions.

We combine many years of experience in the field of technical coatings with comprehensive expertise in safety-critical applications – for reliable, documented and standard-compliant ATEX surfaces.
